Hour 18

aaaaand I'm giving in. I tried my hardest, but I love sleep a little bit more than I love reading at the moment

totally worth it, and I'm already looking forward to October

Hour 16

Thankfully still at the point where I feel like I can keep reading for a while. My chances of making it 24 hours are pretty small, but I'll definitely make it to, if not past, 18, which was my plan.

For those keeping track at home, I've read a little over 1,200 pages today???? Damn.

I'm feeling the intense need to get myself to the gym tomorrow morning (afternoon? whenever I wake up) thanks to all of this snacking today. I've got to say, my favorite snack so far was the celery and roasted red pepper hummus at 10pm or so, which is honestly kind of embarrassing, because I bought a lot of splurge-y stuff for today - organic brie, milano cookies, lipton ring-o-noodle soup

Okay, the soup is more of a danger than a splurge, I can't believe how much salt is in that stuff, wtf mom, why was this our go to sick-food when I was a kid? I couldn't bring myself to eat it today, so I'm saving it for a day when I need to make sure I retain every drop of water I drink.

Anyway, I think the one thing my blog posts have been missing is a selfie. The shirt says "if you don't have anything nice to say, whisper it" because I'm secretly a 15-year-old edgelord, masquerading as a 25-year-old professional.

Hour 11

Decided to take a break from American Gods for a bit and start reading Aspergirls. I read this when I was first coming to terms with being an aspie, but I think I looked at it like a point to prove
"oh look, that's me, why didn't anyone notice this?" or "nope, maybe they're wrong, maybe I don't have Asperger's"

Yeah. Not too healthy of a strategy for enjoying a book. So I'm giving it a reread now that I've become more accustomed to things. I'm on page 95 already and I'm enjoying it much more this time.

Hour 8

Hour 8 and still going strong! I've somehow never read American Gods before, but I bought it with the express purpose of reading it for the readathon today. I'm on page 174 and I love it already! (I had to take a brief detour from reading to finish up the last bit of grad school homework, but I'm back on track now!)

My partner made homemade pretzels today and the entire house smells like bread and yeast. Combine that with the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone soundtrack and we've got some pretty sweet ambiance in the Shepard household today.

Hour 4

Finished my first book of the day! A personal favorite of mine, I always like to start a good stretch of reading with a book I've already read before.

Also starting to accrue drinks for the day. The extreme gulp is full of water, don't worry! I told myself I'd limit to two cups of green tea and one pop for the 24 hours, the rest will be water, seltzer, or herbal tea. We'll see how I feel about that around hour 20 :)

Hour 0

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Michigan, USA!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

American Gods, Neil Gaiman

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

Hmmm. I bought tabasco cheesits for the first time in years specifically for today :)

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I'm currently in grad school, getting my Master's in Education, and I managed to finish all of my work early this week to do the readathon!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different

today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I honestly don't remember the last time I had an entire day to myself, let alone to read, so I am very excited for that.
